00:00:00.842 --> 00:00:01.443
Hey, what is up?
00:00:01.443 --> 00:00:15.670
Wantrepreneurs and entrepreneurs all over the world, it's Brian LoFermento here, host of the WANTrepreneur to Entrepreneur podcast, and this is an Action Saturday episode that I am so excited about because we are inviting back on a guest that you heard from this week.
00:00:15.670 --> 00:00:20.300
She absolutely rocked it in episode 1019.
00:00:20.300 --> 00:00:23.699
That is the amazing and brilliant Chris Jones.
00:00:23.699 --> 00:00:37.426
Chris is back to continue the storytelling excellence and you're gonna see that all the things we talked about in episode 1019 this week, she is putting them into practice for you, for your benefit, to get you to take action here in this Action Saturday episode.
00:00:37.479 --> 00:00:48.206
To reintroduce you to Chris Chris founded her company Red Door Stories all the way back in 2003 and she was mentored by Donald Miller, author of Building a Story Brand.
00:00:48.206 --> 00:01:01.451
She's worked with high profile companies, including Nike and Adidas, but her favorite clients are self-employed service providers because they struggle the most with copywriting and can experience the greatest benefits once they get their story right.
00:01:01.451 --> 00:01:07.710
And I love the way she talks about stories because she believes that writing copy for your business doesn't have to feel like torture.
00:01:07.710 --> 00:01:13.890
In fact, once you know how to tell a compelling signature story, it can actually be fast, easy and fun.
00:01:13.890 --> 00:01:26.692
Chris not only brought the heat and all of the wisdom that she shared with us in episode 1019 this week, but here in today's episode, you're going to see for this Action Saturday, she also incorporates, yes, of course, a story.
00:01:26.692 --> 00:01:31.132
It's going to be memorable for you, but, most importantly, it's going to inspire you to take action.
00:01:31.132 --> 00:01:32.924
So I'm excited about this one.
00:01:32.924 --> 00:01:34.007
Take it away, Chris.
00:01:34.588 --> 00:01:37.007
Thanks, brian, I am thrilled to be here today.
00:01:37.007 --> 00:01:46.171
When I was seven, a neighborhood friend came over to play and she assumed we were probably going to play dolls or maybe watch a little Mr Rogers.
00:01:46.171 --> 00:01:49.165
But I had another idea in mind.
00:01:49.165 --> 00:01:52.912
I actually talked her into making a trifold vacation brochure.
00:01:52.912 --> 00:02:01.204
We pulled out my mom's stack of National Geographics and cut out photos of cheetahs, jungles, exotic beaches.
00:02:01.204 --> 00:02:08.887
Then we collaged them all together onto an eight and a half by 11 piece of paper and we folded it up into three panels and voila.
00:02:08.887 --> 00:02:16.474
I've got dozens of stories like this because, in hindsight, I've always been a visual storyteller Fast forward to adulthood.
00:02:16.895 --> 00:02:23.662
It's no wonder I became a designer and worked for companies like Nike and on personal brands like David Beckham and Jeff Bezos.
00:02:23.662 --> 00:02:29.830
Eventually I started my own business and over the years I have served hundreds of happy clients.
00:02:29.830 --> 00:02:33.128
I love helping small business owners grow.
00:02:33.128 --> 00:02:40.580
But as time went on, the landscape online evolved and what had been working for my clients wasn't working so well anymore.
00:02:40.580 --> 00:02:47.388
The hard truth was, even my own online presence wasn't bringing me the amount of leads I needed to survive.
00:02:47.388 --> 00:02:53.469
I was relying completely on referrals and I was starting to worry about how long I could keep all of this up.
00:02:53.469 --> 00:02:57.262
The unpredictability of it was just stressing me out.
00:02:57.883 --> 00:03:02.091
And about that time a client named Elise came to me for a new website.
00:03:02.091 --> 00:03:07.564
She had a new business idea and she was really excited to get it out into the world.
00:03:07.564 --> 00:03:13.405
And she had a background yes, she actually had a background in publishing and she wanted to write her own website copy.
00:03:13.405 --> 00:03:25.187
So we set the project kickoff for April 10th and she promised to have her copy done before that date and that would allow me to start the design process in time to hit our launch date.
00:03:25.187 --> 00:03:28.508
So the morning of April 11th I got a phone call.
00:03:28.508 --> 00:03:32.669
It was Elise and she said I don't have my copy ready.
00:03:32.669 --> 00:03:33.884
I'm so sorry.
00:03:33.884 --> 00:03:40.986
It's not that I haven't been trying, I just for some reason, this is so hard, I am paralyzed.
00:03:40.986 --> 00:03:49.306
I'm a good writer so I should be able to do this for myself, but there's just so much information in my brain and I don't know how to get it out.
00:03:49.306 --> 00:03:51.090
Can you please help me?
00:03:51.090 --> 00:03:56.068
That was a really tough phone call because I wasn't sure how to help her.
00:03:56.628 --> 00:04:00.024
I knew how to tell a visual story, but not so much a written one.
00:04:00.024 --> 00:04:04.002
So we came up with a few things she could try, like following a template.
00:04:04.002 --> 00:04:09.187
She hired a couple copywriters and asking her friends for insights.
00:04:09.187 --> 00:04:14.924
She tried all of those and in the end, the copy just didn't feel like her.
00:04:14.924 --> 00:04:18.516
It wasn't working because it didn't feel like her voice.
00:04:18.516 --> 00:04:23.072
She was stuck and, honestly, she wasn't my only client struggling with this.
00:04:23.072 --> 00:04:25.961
I knew there had to be a better way.
00:04:25.961 --> 00:04:34.019
Thanks to Elise, I made it my mission to crack the code on how to write great website copy paired with beautiful design.
00:04:34.019 --> 00:04:35.584
So this would never.
00:04:35.584 --> 00:04:38.274
Website copy paired with beautiful design so this would never, ever happen again.
00:04:38.293 --> 00:04:38.995
I dove deep into storytelling.
00:04:38.995 --> 00:04:41.822
I traveled across the country to attend workshops.
00:04:41.822 --> 00:04:43.333
I read countless books.
00:04:43.333 --> 00:04:51.728
I even got certified as one of the very first story brand guides, and that's based on a book called Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller.
00:04:51.728 --> 00:04:52.930
You should definitely check it out.
00:04:53.351 --> 00:04:59.822
Anyway, I became more confident with how to tell an effective story on a website and things really began to change.
00:04:59.822 --> 00:05:06.786
My clients were calling me to share exciting news, like Chris, our revenue has gone up 300%.
00:05:06.786 --> 00:05:11.995
And another one called to say oh my God, I'm finally hitting consistent six figure months.
00:05:11.995 --> 00:05:16.142
And yet another called with Chris, you won't believe this.
00:05:16.142 --> 00:05:22.300
I'm charging six times more for the exact same service and I'm no longer feeling burned out.
00:05:22.601 --> 00:05:31.637
At the same time, my calendar was getting booked out with lead calls and new website projects because my website started doing the heavy lifting of selling for me.
00:05:31.637 --> 00:05:43.250
That's when I realized the true power of story, because when you tell a compelling story, your ideal clients feel a connection with you, they resonate with you and they want to work with you.
00:05:43.250 --> 00:05:50.471
And the best part is your website does all the selling so you can focus on the things that matter most.
00:05:50.471 --> 00:06:07.560
I used to help people build beautiful websites, and now my greatest joy comes from helping them build effective websites, and I am thrilled to share a free tool that will help you use the power of story to captivate your ideal clients and increase your revenue.
