00:00:01.141 --> 00:00:01.743
Hey, what is up?

00:00:01.743 --> 00:00:17.410
Wantrepreneurs and entrepreneurs all over the world, it's Brian LoFermento here, host of the WANTrepreneur to Entrepreneur podcast, and this is an Action Saturday episode that, honestly, I think every single one of you tuning into today's episode, you should and you must take action.

00:00:17.410 --> 00:00:18.332
Because this action?

00:00:18.332 --> 00:00:29.899
This weekend, I asked myself one big question of what's the easiest thing that I think every single entrepreneur should do and that I want to share, and so that's really what today's topic is all about.

00:00:29.899 --> 00:00:40.701
Because this action, I think you should get in the habit of doing it not just once, not just twice, but really work it into your monthly workflow, just put it on your calendar and tell yourself to do this action.

00:00:40.701 --> 00:00:45.932
Because this action, very simply, is Google yourself, google yourself.

00:00:45.932 --> 00:00:46.533
That's it.

00:00:46.533 --> 00:00:47.301
It's that easy.

00:00:47.381 --> 00:00:54.226
Because here's the thing, when it comes to entrepreneurship, our Google search results, that is, our resume.

00:00:54.226 --> 00:01:07.787
As entrepreneurs, you know, when you apply for a job and you have a resume and you show people hey, here's why you should hire me, here's all the previous jobs that I've had, here's my skillset, here's my academic credentials, here's all of this.

00:01:07.787 --> 00:01:18.430
Well, in the world of business, in the world of sales, in the world of marketing, in the world of entrepreneurship, we don't have a resume, and that's why I've always loved that term of Google resume.

00:01:18.430 --> 00:01:23.287
People say that within the world of entrepreneurship oh, he's got a really awesome Google resume.

00:01:23.287 --> 00:01:28.879
So you will not know your Google resume until you actually take the time to Google yourself.

00:01:29.262 --> 00:01:39.099
And when it comes to Googling yourself, here is my big disclaimer and really this is at the crux of today's Action Saturday episode is make sure you do it incognito.

00:01:39.099 --> 00:01:43.379
So whatever browser it is that you typically use, it's okay to use that browser.

00:01:43.379 --> 00:01:44.743
I personally use Google Chrome.

00:01:44.743 --> 00:01:55.161
If you also use Google Chrome, or if you use Firefox or Safari or Microsoft Edge or whatever the heck the leading browsers are these days, I feel like I've long lost track of the browser world.

00:01:55.161 --> 00:02:00.129
But in your browser of choice, make sure you go incognito.

00:02:00.129 --> 00:02:03.623
So every single browser has incognito mode.

00:02:03.724 --> 00:02:06.031
What's the importance of going incognito?

00:02:06.031 --> 00:02:16.131
Well, if you're logged into your browser as you normally are and you're searching the way that you normally do, then you are going to get personalized results.

00:02:16.131 --> 00:02:28.930
So, for example, if I Google pizza places, google because I'm logged in as me and because I have my entire search history based on where I live and my home address and all these other things, it's going to give me personalized results.

00:02:28.930 --> 00:02:37.504
And so today's Action Saturday what I'm recommending you do is Google yourself incognito so that you see what others might see about you.

00:02:37.504 --> 00:02:39.872
Get rid of the biases that Google has.

00:02:39.872 --> 00:03:04.072
If you always log on to Instagram and that's very prominent in your search history or in your browser history it's a website that you always go to and you go to your profile Google's going to have a bias in showing you that result on your own machine, and so you want to remove those biases, that personalization, that search history that Google is using in its results for you and search incognito.

00:03:04.072 --> 00:03:12.022
See what others would see, see what someone who's never Googled you before has seen, see what somebody who's never been to your business website will see.

00:03:12.022 --> 00:03:24.646
So it's really important to Google yourself and I'll also tag on to today's action Saturdays Google your business name, then Google some combinations of your name and your business name, and then just your business name and then just your name.

00:03:24.646 --> 00:03:42.612
Google all of these different variations so that you can see what others will see, because if you think that your sales pitch over email or social media or even in person or after networking events, you have to realize that your pitch is not exclusively what people are going to remember.

00:03:42.612 --> 00:03:45.544
It's not exclusively what people are going to judge you by.

00:03:45.544 --> 00:03:52.323
They are going to Google you, so make sure that you are well aware of what your Google resume contains.

00:03:52.503 --> 00:04:00.088
And then here's the fun part is that if you like your Google resume, that's fantastic, but if you don't like it, start doing things.

00:04:00.088 --> 00:04:03.123
Put your name in more places that you want to pop up.

00:04:03.123 --> 00:04:05.550
Invest in some PR services.

00:04:05.550 --> 00:04:09.564
Go on a few different podcasts, for example, a lot of our podcast guests.

00:04:09.564 --> 00:04:19.692
When you Google them, you will find their episode in the Google search results, and so there's so many places for you to more prominently display the things that you want to.

00:04:19.692 --> 00:04:26.769
If you have a Wikipedia page, for example, chances are that will pop up first, so you better hope that that is accurate.

00:04:26.899 --> 00:04:31.288
Whatever it is that you have listed under your name, other people are going to see it.

00:04:31.288 --> 00:04:37.107
So this action really kicks off with something that is incredibly easy and takes 30 seconds to do.

00:04:37.107 --> 00:04:48.483
It might be the easiest Action Saturday episode we've ever had is Google yourself and then start putting places or things in place to optimize your Google resume.

00:04:48.483 --> 00:04:55.567
But you can't start doing that until you first identify what is on your Google resume by Googling yourself in incognito mode.

00:04:55.567 --> 00:04:59.702
That's it for me today Super short, super actionable.

00:04:59.702 --> 00:05:03.932
I'm excited for us to be back here tomorrow with another solo Sunday episode.

00:05:03.932 --> 00:05:05.423
So pound that subscribe button.

00:05:05.423 --> 00:05:09.391
But even more important than that is go out there and take action.
