Tell us about the moment you finally felt like you went from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur.

My business grew organically from the moment I hit GO on my LinkedIn post, announcing my leap from corporate into entrepreneurship. Because of the strong reputation I had in my hometown, and the relationships that I built, I was able to grow my client list through word of mouth and client referrals. My team started to grow, from just me to a team of 12 creatives and providers. It wasn't until I had a meeting where I pushed back on the price that I felt like I had gone from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur. Seeing the VALUE in what Stockall & Co brought to the team and not settling or negotiating our value if a potential client's budget didn't align. The burst of confidence that came from this conversation was hugely empowering and really capitulated my mindset into abundance, leaving scarcity behind. From that moment, my business truly launched into the next universe of growth.

Describe the moment or period in your life/career that motivated you to make the entrepreneurial leap.

My business was originally a means to an end. I had made a lot of financial missteps in my early 20's (as a lot of us do), so I "freelanced" to pay off consumer debt. As I gained more and more experience, my passion for being an entrepreneur grew. And it went from a side hustle to a full-blown client list. I was offered my 'dream job' at an agency, and this was my fork in the road. I had the opportunity, I had wanted for a decade but my intuition was telling me to go all in on myself. So I turned down the job, gave my notice to my employer and haven't looked back. That was May 2021.

Describe a tool, service, or software that has been a game-changer for your business. How does it contribute to your success?

ASANA, I could not live without it. It is a game changer for project management. When managing a team of 12+, you need a system in place to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. This allows team collaboration and supports us in capacity building.

We know that success is very often a non-linear path. Tell us about a failure, pivot point, or lesson that changed your course or direction and helped to get you where you are today.

I'm a big believer in falling forward - we can never learn unless we fumble. So those missteps are what turn into growth. I've had more than my fair share of mistakes. To answer this question, I could share a few examples but what truly changed my course, was accepting that mistakes are meant to learn, it's where you grow and get better. Without mistakes, there would be no learning. So embracing those mistakes and learning opportunities – whenever a team member or myself makes a mistake, we'll take the time to learn from it – what happened and what can we put in place to ensure it doesn't happen again. Because a mistake that happens twice is no longer a mistake... it's a choice.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly impacted your business?

Allowing my team to act as an extension of our client's team. This is VERY unique. We don't see our clients like another account or line item on our P&L statements. We truly value our client's success and have unconventional boundaries with our clients, some might say they are too loose. But this is what has helped us grow, we genuinely care for our clients.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner that you’d give as advice for aspiring or newer entrepreneurs?

Fake it to your make it - please never do this. Operate with integrity and honesty about your experience and skill set. We all need to gain experience so we can grow but do so with honesty and transparency. If you don't know how to do something, communicate that. Empower your clients with communication and let them make the decision if they want you to learn on their account. This is a far better route than being dishonest in your skillset and experience.
