Hi, Tanner! Thanks for joining us today. Tell us about your business. Who do you serve, how do you serve them, and what's the impact that your business and work makes?

I help burnt-out individuals live a more purposeful life. We go through a process of realization (identifying their pain points / what they want to change), discovery (outlining where they want to be), and implementation (incorporating systems/processes to get them to where they want to be). The ultimate impact is people live a healthier, happier, and more purposeful life.

Tell us about the moment you finally felt like you went from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur.

When I started answering "what do you do" with "I help people live a happier and healthier life." The reason this was so powerful was because my identity changed. This wasn't a side project, I wasn't just experimenting with coaching, I was a coach who had a very clear vision.

Describe the moment or period in your life/career that motivated you to make the entrepreneurial leap.

I think many people wait for a big epiphany moment, but in reality, it was the cumulation of small choices. I slowly worked my way into a life that I was no longer happy in and I knew I needed to make a change. For me that started with my defining where I wanted to go. Once I had a North Star, I hired a coach and began working towards that life. I didn't know it at the time, but that eventually led me to found Anturas Coaching.

Describe a tool, service, or software that has been a game-changer for your business. How does it contribute to your success?

Calendly and HubSpot. Calendly saves me countless hours every month by skipping over the back-and-forth emails and enabling people to book directly on my calendar. HubSpot saves me brain space because it tracks all my contacts and follow-ups.

We know that success is very often a non-linear path. Tell us about a failure, pivot point, or lesson that changed your course or direction and helped to get you where you are today.

The first year of entrepreneurship is most likely going to be failure after failure. You aren't going to make as much money as your peers. People are going to say no and shut doors in your face. You are going to mess up an opportunity. The list goes on and on. One specific "failure" was when I first started coaching I thought sales was only a numbers game. If I reached out to an X number of people, that would lead to Y clients. After reaching out to 1500 people with customized messaging, I realized there's a little more to it. The lessons I learned were 1) provide value first, 2) it takes time to build trust, and 3) you need a sales process.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly impacted your business?

Giving away work for free. When I first started I couldn't get a client, so I reached out to my network and coached for free. This leads to free clients converting to paid clients and referrals.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner that you’d give as advice for aspiring or newer entrepreneurs?

Extend your time horizon. Everything won't happen at once, but if you keep putting the work in, good things will come.
