The Power of One Story: Kris Jones on Transforming Business Success Through Storytelling

In this Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur Spotlight, we're thrilled to introduce Kris Jones, a story-selling specialist who's changing the way service-based businesses approach their marketing. From working with global giants like Nike and Adidas to now transforming how coaches and consultants tell their stories, Kris has developed a groundbreaking approach that's changing the game in business messaging. Through her innovative Signature Story-Selling System, she's proving that success doesn't require endless content creation – just one powerful story that resonates.

Hi, Kris! Thanks for joining us today. Tell us about your business. Who do you serve, how do you serve them, and what's the impact that your business and work makes?

I help coaches, consultants and small business owners replace all their marketing with a single story that sells for them 24/7. Through my Signature Story-Selling System, I extract the powerful narrative already within them and transform it into clear, compelling copy that turns their website into their top sales employee. The impact is transformative - my clients go from struggling with inconsistent income and unclear messaging to having a simplified, profitable business that attracts ideal clients consistently.

Tell us about the moment you finally felt like you went from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur.

When I replaced all my marketing with a single story and saw my client project calendar fill up consistently. That's when I knew I had something special - a system that not only worked for me but could revolutionize how other service-based businesses approach their marketing.

Describe the moment or period in your life/career that motivated you to make the entrepreneurial leap.

Coming from a background in working with brands like Nike and Adidas, I realized I could help more business owners by focusing specifically on extracting and crafting their signature stories. What motivated me was seeing so many talented coaches and consultants struggle to communicate their value, when I knew I could help them break free from that "bottle effect" of being too close to their own business to talk about it clearly.

Describe a tool, service, or software that has been a game-changer for your business. How does it contribute to your success?

The StoryBrand Framework has been foundational for my success. It provides the backbone for how I help clients position themselves as the guide, not the hero, in their business story. I've adapted this framework into my own Signature Story-Selling System, which has become my unique approach to helping clients simplify their marketing.

We know that success is very often a non-linear path. Tell us about a failure, pivot point, or lesson that changed your course or direction and helped to get you where you are today.

Realizing that traditional copywriting services often fail because they try to write in a silo. This led me to develop my collaborative approach where I extract the story first, then write and refine it together with the client. This pivot transformed my business and my clients' results.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly impacted your business?

The "Single Story Strategy" - teaching clients to replace all their marketing with one core story that adapts like an accordion depending on where it's used. This goes against the common advice of creating endless content, and it's proven much more effective.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner that you’d give as advice for aspiring or newer entrepreneurs?

Simplicity is the key to a successful business. I spent too much time overcomplicating my marketing before realizing that one clear, compelling story could do the work of countless marketing tactics.
